Part 21 of 33
Watch & Wonder
Watch & Wonder, in the menu under Brain Gym, is cartoon films for the youngest children. They are made for Pre-K to Grade 2, and the films about amazing people and how things work are offered up to Grade 5 too. It is free in full, with no sign-in.
Finding a film
The films are posters, in kinds listed along the top. Tap a kind to see only its films, or Everything for all of them.
- Stories: old fables such as the lion and the mouse, and the tortoise and the hare.
- Animal facts: the octopus, the penguin, the honeybee and more.
- How things work: a raindrop’s trip, a rainbow, a seed, day and night.
- My body: the heart, the tummy, bones and the brain.
- Amazing people: real people’s stories, such as Jane Goodall and the Wright brothers.
Two ways to watch
Most films come in two versions, on the same pictures. Two buttons above the film switch between them.
- The characters talk opens first. The characters speak to each other, and to your child, with no narrator. Picture questions sit under the film.
- A storyteller tells it: one voice tells the whole story, end to end, with no questions and no stops.
The picture questions
In the talking version, every question shows under the film from the start, each as a row of pictures with a word under each. The film stops at each question and lights it up. Your child taps a picture, and the film goes on.
- A guess, such as what a character will do next, has no right answer. Any picture goes on.
- A check has one right picture. Another picture gets a gentle pointer, and the question stays open for another try.
- A child can also answer out loud: the button beside the pictures says Or tell and the character’s name.
A question answered before the film reaches it is simply passed by.
