Finding a lesson

There are more than seventeen hundred lessons in Cogito. There are two ways to reach the one you want: type what you are looking for, or work down the list.

If you know what it is called

Tap Search in the menu on the left. A box opens over the page. Type two or more letters and matching lessons appear underneath as you type.

  1. Tap Search — the magnifying glass, at the top of the menu.
  2. Type part of what you want — fraction, divide, clock.
  3. Tap any result to go straight to that lesson.

There is a second search box in the blue bar on the home page. It does exactly the same thing — it is there because that is where people look first.

If you are browsing

The course list is on the home page, and also on a page of its own under All courses in the menu. They are the same list.

Work down the left-hand side in order.

  1. Subject — Math, Science or Reading.
  2. Stage — roughly how old your child is:
    Early Elementary is pre-K to Grade 2.
    Elementary is Grades 3 to 5.
    Middle School is Grades 6 to 8.
    High School is Algebra 1 upwards.
  3. Course — the exact school year, such as Grade 1 Math.
  4. Chapter, and then the lesson itself.

It opens showing Early Elementary because that is where most families start. If your child is older, tap the stage you want and the list changes straight away.

With View as set to Levels at the top of the list, the stages read Levels A to D, Levels E to G, Levels H to J and Beyond Level J, and a course reads Level C Math instead of Grade 1 Math. See Grades and levels for the table.

Showing one course only

There are fifty-three courses. Once you know which one your child is working through, you can put the rest away.

Hover over a course or a chapter and a small square icon appears at the right-hand end of the row. Tap it and the list shows that one thing and nothing else.

  1. Tap the square icon beside the course or chapter you want.
  2. The list now shows only that. Everything else is still there — it is simply not on screen.
  3. Tap the line at the top to bring the rest back.

On a phone

There is no room for the list beside the page, so it becomes a button saying Browse courses. Tap it and the list slides in over the page; tap a lesson and it slides away again.

Getting back

Tapping COGITO at the top left always returns you to the home page, from anywhere in Cogito. All courses in the menu does the same for the list.

And when your child finishes a lesson, the way out lands on the chapter they came from rather than at the top of everything — so carrying on is one tap.
