Grades and levels
Cogito names each course the way a school in the United States does: Pre-K, Kindergarten, then Grade 1 to Grade 8, then named courses such as Algebra 1 and Geometry. The lessons follow the Common Core in teaching order, use dollars and feet, and print the standard they teach on every worksheet.
Showing levels instead of grades
A child working below or above their age can be shown a level instead of a grade. Grade 1 Math becomes Level C Math on the course list, the lesson header, the chapter list, search and the Today panel. The four stages on the course list read as level ranges too: Levels A to D, Levels E to G, Levels H to J, and Beyond Level J for the named courses. Nothing else changes: the same lessons, in the same order.
- Open Learners in the menu on the left.
- Under your child’s name, tick Show levels instead of grades.
- The change applies at once, on this device, for that child only.
The same switch sits at the top of All courses, as View as Grades or Levels. Either one sets it for the child currently chosen in the menu.
You still see grades. The learners page, the family page, the worksheets, the starting chapter check and the web address all keep the grade, so you can match what school is doing while your child sees only a letter.

Find your child’s age in the first column. The row shows the school year that age usually sits in, and the Cogito course that matches it.

The lessons are written for the United States: measurements in feet and inches, money in dollars, and the Common Core standard named on each worksheet. The mathematics is the same everywhere; only the units and the codes are American.
Two courses are written for you, in a row of their own under Math, International, beside the four stages. Money Around the World teaches money in pounds, euros and rupees, from coins to exchange rates. Measuring Around the World teaches centimeters, kilograms, liters and Celsius against the inches, pounds, gallons and Fahrenheit your child meets in American books and videos. Each has a chapter for every level, so open the chapter that matches your child.
