Part 24 of 25
On a phone or tablet
There is no app to download from an app store. Cogito runs in the web browser you already have. But you can put it on your home screen so it opens with one tap, like any other app.
Putting it on the home screen: iPhone or iPad
- Open cogitolearning.com in Safari. This does not work in Chrome on an iPhone.
- Tap the share button at the bottom — the square with an arrow pointing up out of it.
- Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add at the top right.
The Cogito icon is now on your home screen with your other apps.
Putting it on the home screen: Android
- Open cogitolearning.com in Chrome.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Tap Add to Home screen or Install app — Chrome uses both names.
- Confirm.
Using it without internet
Lessons your child has already opened keep working when the connection drops. This matters in a car, on a train, or when the internet is simply having a bad day.
- Already opened on this device: works offline.
- Never opened on this device: will not work — there is nothing saved to show.
If you open something that was never saved, you will see a page saying you are offline, rather than a browser error. That is expected.
Which is better for a child
A tablet or a laptop, if you have the choice. Lessons have things to drag and shade, and on a small phone screen a young child’s finger covers the thing they are trying to move. A phone works perfectly well — it is just harder.
Keeping a child in the app
Adding Cogito to the home screen opens it without the browser address bar, which makes it harder for a young child to wander off to something else by accident. It is not a lock, but it helps.
