A muscle cell contains thousands of mitochondria. A skin cell contains a few hundred. Both are human cells with the same instructions.

It holds the instructions and controls what the cell builds. It is the dark center you can see at high power.
Nucleus The part of a cell holding its instructions.
They release usable energy from food. Cells that need more energy carry more of them.
Mitochondrion The part of a cell that releases usable energy from food.
The jelly filling the cell, where most of the chemistry happens and the parts sit.
The nucleus stores instructions, mitochondria release energy, ribosomes build proteins, the membrane controls what enters and leaves. Each structure has a function the cell depends on.
Comparing a cell to a factory helps at first and misleads later — nothing in a cell is directing anything. The parts work because of chemistry, not because of management.

The cell membrane is not a wall but a filter, and a picky one — it lets water and oxygen through freely, moves some substances in against their concentration using energy, and refuses others entirely. Almost everything a cell does depends on controlling what is allowed across that boundary.
