Wanting it now is normal. Waiting is a thing you can get better at.
There is often more than one good answer. Pick one and see what happens.
Baking
What do you do?
A choice
What do you pick?
The name for what you just worked out.
Wanting something right now is normal. Grown-ups feel it too.
Looking at the thing makes waiting harder. Doing something else makes it easier.
One now, or two if you wait. That is a real choice, and both answers are allowed.
Two questions, then you are done.
Question 1 of 1
You have to wait ten minutes for something you really want. What makes waiting easier?
Something to do away from the screen. Nobody is checking.
Why: Trying the trick once and feeling it work is what makes you use it again.
Waiting ability at this age is far more about strategy than about character. A child who covers their eyes or sings a song is not more patient; they have found a technique, and techniques can be taught.
Waiting is much harder when a child is not sure the promised thing will actually arrive. Reliability at home does more for this skill than any exercise.
Avoid framing this as a test of goodness. A child who could not wait has not failed morally, and treating it that way adds shame to something already difficult.
